Botox for Migraine

Onabotulinumtoxina (Botox)is a well-established, safe, and effective treatment for chronic migraine. FDA-approved since 2010, Botox has helped many patients by significantly reducing the frequency and severity of migraine attacks. It works by preventing nerve endings from releasing certain signals; in the case of migraine, blocking the transmission of pain signals.

Botox is typically administered at 31–40 injection sites across the head, neck, and shoulders every three months. Common areas include the forehead, temples, sides of the head, back of the skull, and trapezius muscles. In addition, treatment can be tailored to each patient’s unique pain pattern.

Dr. Fred Cohen has extensive experience in customizing Botox injections

with additional injection sites when needed, such as the TMJ (jaw joint), areas behind the eyes, the crown of the head, and around the cheeks and nose. This personalized approach ensures that every patient receives a treatment plan designed to address their individual headache pain and maximize relief. Dr. Cohen also serves as a Botox injector instructor for Allergan (the makers of Botox), giving injection workshops both in New York City and around the country.
